Footballing Heroes set to return to Portman Road

Footballing Heroes Set To Return To Portman Road

SUNDAY 27TH May sees a match with a difference taking place at Portman Road. Two teams with auspicious managers will be taking to the pitch and it’s all in aid of two very special local charities. Milsom’s Maestros managed by Mick Mills and Wheeler Wine Masters managed by George Burley are making a very special one-off appearance to raise much needed funds for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and the ITFC Charitable Trust. The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation focuses on the early detection and treatment of cancer and the clinical trials of new drugs that will eventually beat it. Through football, the ITFC Charitable Trust inspires, motivates and improves the education and life chances of young people in Suffolk who are in need.

As a recognised charity over the past 12 months the Trust has delivered over 60,000 education and sports coaching sessions, helping to change young lives for the better.

This very special Sir Bobby Robson Charity Football Match is not only a chance to meet a host of footballing heroes on the day including; Simon Milton, Fabian Wilnis, John Walk and Matt Holland (ITFC Charitable Trust’s Patron) plus some of the team from the 1978 FA Cup Final, there will also be a Food & Wine fair too from 12.30pm with family-friendly activities . With a range of fun football activities organised for the day by the ITFC Charitable Trust plus a local producers market showcasing produce from all over East Anglia. Pippa Langhorne, former contestant from Britain’s Got Talent, will also be putting in an appearance at the ground, entertaining the crowds singing before the start of the match.

The match kicks off at 3.00pm and tickets are just £10 per adult and £5 for children. Tickets can be purchased by calling either Wine Company Events on 01206 713560 or Milsom Hotels on 01206 322795. All proceeds will be split between the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and ITFC Charitable Trust. Team Captains are Paul Milsom and Johnny Wheeler both huge fans of ITFC. Paul says

“In my youth I was football crazy and growing up in the 70s with one of the country’s finest football teams on my door step was incredibly exciting. In those days Ipswich Town under Bobby Robson were sensational and the players and teams of that era captured our hearts. There are still few better feelings than watching your team win an important match and that Wembley victory in May 2000 still inspires me to hope that next season we can do it. One day I’ll be proved right!”

Johnny concludes

“Ipswich Town is a very special Club for me. My first visit to Portman Road was in 1975 to the FA Cup Quarter Final against Leeds United. I regard myself as very fortunate to have grown up watching Sir Bobby Robson’s greatest team in that late 70s early 80s period. We live with the memories and have seen many great players and matches since. May 27th is a celebration of those great times and we hope to attract as many friends and supporters as possible to enjoy the occasion with us.”

More People In The UK Want To Build Their Own Homes

Building your own home popular in uk | Felixstowe Property newsLast year, more than 13,000 Britons designed and built their own homes, making them the single largest group of housebuilders when compared with the number constructed by individual developers.

One in 10 new homes in the UK are self built and the market generates £3 billion annually for the UK economy, according to the Building Societies Association.

It has published as new toolkit to provide information to encourage lenders not yet in this market to offer self build mortgage finance.

Self build takes a number of forms including individuals building their own homes, kit or packaged homes, developer built one off houses and independent community collaboration where a group of self builders buy a larger plot of land.

It is estimated that the sector accounted for two of every three one off homes built in 2010/11, adding as many new homes annually as any of the major house builders.

However, whilst the numbers may sound large, the UK lags well behind other countries. In Austria for example around 80% of all new homes are self built and in France and Germany the equivalent figure is circa 60%.

The UK Government has committed in its housing strategy for England to work with industry to double this sector over the next ten years, adding 100,000 homes to help fill the housing gap and support up to 50,000 jobs directly and indirectly per year, taking self build mainstream.
